Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed to his side’s official website that West Ham United target Armando Broja has picked up an injury in training

Romano says that Broja is pushing for the move and was planning to fly back from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States to England.

Just yesterday, Fabrizio Romano reported that a deal for Broja to move to the Hammers is ‘close’.

Armando Broja picks up injury in training

But Tuchel has said that the reason the 20-year-old has flown back to England is because he has suffered an injury in training

The German boss said: “Armando had to travel home. He’s had a little accident in training. He needs further examinations and treatments in London. It did not make sense to have him as an additional player.”

Despite reports that the Albanian striker is close to joining David Moyes’ side, Tuchel insists that he was sent home for treatment so he can be available for selection in the near future.

He added: “The best way for him to get the best treatment and come back on the pitch as soon as possible was for him to go back to London and get the treatment there.”

A product of Chelsea’s impressive academy, Broja has attracted interest from Newcastle as well as the Hammers.

The striker enjoyed a successful loan spell at Southampton last season and impressed in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

Broja scored nine times for the Saints last season and his potent displays have clearly caught the attention of Premier League teams.

Fabrizio Romano claims Broja will cost West Ham around £30 million and a buy-back clause is set to be discussed between the clubs. It seems that Moyes’ side are the front-runners for the Albanian as things stand, despite Tuchel stating that he’s flown back for treatment.

TBR’s View: Broja could do a job for Tuchel at Chelsea

It seems that Broja is nearing a move to West Ham but he could have been an ideal squad player for Tuchel this season.

Chelsea have had great success with their academy players in recent years and the young striker looked brilliant for Southampton last season.

As the club have moved on Romelu Lukaku, Broja could have been a good option for Tuchel as Kai Havertz isn’t a natural striker. Timo Werner remains at Chelsea but the club will probably need to sign another number nine if Broja leaves.
