Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Mikel Arteta to keep hold of Alexandre Lacazette beyond the end of this season.

The Frenchman has had his ups and downs at the Emirates over the years. He joined the club back in 2017 to solve Arsenal’s goalscoring issues, but he has now been transformed into a semi-playmaker by Arteta.

Lacazette has really been brilliant for the Gunners over the last few weeks. His record recently has been absolutely exceptional and many are now wondering if he deserves a new contract.

Wright is one of them and he has now urged Arteta to keep hold of him for one or two more years.

Ian Wright tells Arsenal to give Alexandre Lacazette a new contract

The legendary Englishman sat down with Flo Lloyd-Hughes and Mayowa Quadri on the Wrighty’s House podcast this week and delivered his verdict on Lacazette.

He said: “It will be interesting to see how they do that. His position is vitally important to everything we do, just look at the two assists he got.

“Unless we get that person, you think to yourself, maybe we could give Laca another year or two.

“I think Laca has got to stay around, man. You can see with his little back flick (for Saka’s goal vs Watford), his little assist. Man is feeling the vibe!”

TBR View:

Lacazette has been absolutely incredible for Arsenal since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was axed.

The Frenchman has two goals and seven assists to his name in his last 10 Premier League games and he is one of the biggest reasons why Arsenal have looked so good recently.

Arsenal have a really big decision to make in the summer. Whenever they have offered big contracts to ageing players in recent seasons, it has backfired, but with Lacazette, things could be different.

The 30-year-old is a real leader, every young player at Arsenal looks up at him and he always works incredibly hard for the team. Keeping Lacazette around wouldn’t be a bad idea at all, but irrespective of what happens with him, the Gunners need to go out and sign a top-quality striker who will guarantee them regular goals.
