'He's been absolutely flying’: BBC pundit says he wouldn’t be surprised if £30m attacker joins Newcastle
Chris Sutton has said that he wouldn’t be surprised if Brighton & Hove Albion winger Leandro Trossard signed for Newcastle United.
Newcastle will be one of a few clubs who wished that the World Cup wasn’t approaching in a few weeks’ time.
Their form has been extraordinary and has seen them establish themselves in the top four of the Premier League.
If Newcastle are going to maintain their unlikely charge of the European places this season, they may need to strengthen in January.
Eddie Howe’s starting XI is in brilliant form and has shown in can match the best teams in the league.
However, as the season goes on he may need more depth to continue challenging at the top of the table.
One player Newcastle have been linked with is Brighton’s Leandro Trossard.
The 27-year-old has been in fantastic form this season, and Newcastle may make a bid to bring him in this winter.
Sutton has now said he wouldn’t be surprised if Trossard signed for Newcastle.
Sutton wouldn’t be shocked if Trossard signed for Newcastle
Speaking on the Monday Night Club about the Belgian attacker, Sutton said: “He’s been absolutely flying this season and I suppose if you look at Brighton he’s been their main player, their best goal scorer, he’s versatile.
“Of course, (Roberto) De Zerbi will want to hold onto him, but with Brighton doing so well, and Trossard doing so well, it wouldn’t be a total shock if he went up there (to Newcastle).”
The Northern Echo believe that Trossard is currently valued at £30m by Brighton.
Trossard has already said that he would be happy to leave the club in the future.
However, he was previously suggesting that he would enjoy a reunion with Graham Potter at Chelsea.
Trossard would be a brilliant alternative for Howe to Allan Saint-Maximin or Miguel Almiron.
His work-rate, ability in front of goal and link-up play would make him a valuable asset for Newcastle.
Rio Ferdinand has said he’s been surprised that more big clubs haven’t looked at Trossard.
It’s been a tough few weeks for Brighton who have had their backroom staff gutted by Chelsea.
They would be very reluctant to lose another star player as well.
However, Sutton has now said that he wouldn’t be shocked if Trossard ended up leaving the club too and signed for Newcastle.
