Liverpool No.10 Alexis Mac Allister has now revealed that he hates playing against Tottenham defender Cristian Romero.

The 25-year-old made the comments when speaking to Direct TV Sports.

So, what did Alexis Mac Allister say about Tottenham No.17 Cristian Romero? Let’s take a look…

Alexis Mac Allister says Cristian Romero is a “real pain”

Well, the Liverpool midfielder is actually a teammate of Romero at international level – the pair have played 15 games alongside each other for Argentina, winning 14.

However, it sounds like Mac Allister endures a tough 90 minutes when he faces the £42m man in the Premier League.

The South American said: “We had a few run ins with Cuti Romero. He’s a real pain, very aggressive and if you don’t stand up to him he keeps hitting you, but we have a great relationship and it makes it easier.”

It is no wonder Mac Allister hates playing against his fellow countryman.

The Liverpool No.10 has faced Romero on five occasions in the Premier League, losing all but one.

Most recently, Mac Allister watched on as Tottenham scored a 96th minute winner to secure a 2-1 win over the Reds back in September, a game which also saw Luis Diaz have a goal wrongfully disallowed.

Cristian Romero has become a leader at Tottenham

The 25-year-old was undoubtedly a bit of a hot head when arriving in north London from Atalanta back in August 2021.

Romero still tends to go overboard, but he has certainly made a huge effort to calm himself down.

The man from Córdoba has now gone seven consecutive Premier League appearances without picking up a yellow card, wearing the captain’s armband in four of these games as well.

Tottenham have won four and drawn two of these seven outings.

Clearly, Romero is now channeling his aggression into something positive for Spurs, and has become a real leader under Ange Postecoglou – who admits he has been “super impressed” by his central defender.
