Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been lauding the impact of his defender Cristian Romero this season.

Romero, who was signed by previous manager Antonio Conte, has been a revelation since his move to north London and is a key part of Postecoglou’s first-choice XI.

After winning the World Cup, Romero has become one of the most well-thought of defenders in European football.

And speaking about Romero to Football.London ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wolves, Postecoglou has lauded the Argentinian’s impact at the club.

Ange Postecoglou praises Cristian Romero

Speaking about Romero and the partnership he has formed with Micky van de Ven, the Spurs boss was full of praise for his defender.

“I’ve been super-impressed with Romero this year – I already knew he was one of the best defenders in the world – but the way he’s tackled the whole leadership area, really become disciplined in his play and not just Micky but the other players, how he’s kind of really guiding them in the right way. Especially Micky, and Micky I’ve already spoken about, the way he has adjusted to the Premier League has been outstanding. So it is great for those two. We missed them. Both during the middle part of the year so it is good to have them both back out there,” Postecoglou said.

One of the best in the league

All the best teams have certain players who simply make the first XI better and Cristian Romero is one of those players for Tottenham.

When he was out suspended and Van de Ven was also out, it left a gaping hole in the Tottenham team and he’s shown how good he is since coming back into the fold.

With Romero fit and playing well and Van de Ven seemingly getting better and better, Tottenham have a genuine chance of landing a Champions League place.

Certainly, Romero is one of the shining lights remaining at the club from the Conte era anyway.
