‘He’s a great player’: £43m PL star raves about striker Arsenal have reportedly made move to sign

Bernardo Silva has hailed his Manchester City teammate Gabriel Jesus amid recent rumours that Arsenal want to sign him.

Jesus has been linked with a summer switch to the Emirates Stadium, but has scored five times in the two matches since the reports emerged.

Arsenal are reportedly already in talks with Jesus, but have not yet spoken to City, indicating that nothing is close and a decision will be made at the end of the season.

Jesus netted in Tuesday’s epic 4-3 thriller against Real Madrid and after that game, Bernardo spoke to the club’s official website about the Brazilian striker.

“Gabriel Jesus is in fantastic shape. He scored four goals last weekend, on Tuesday another one,” Bernardo said.

“He is a great player and he deserves the best for the way he trains and plays for the team.

“With his talent, his attitude to helping the team is admirable. He is one of our most important players.”

The Athletic reported in September that Bernardo and Jesus wanted to leave City in the summer, but that did not happen and they have knuckled down to be a key part of the chase for silverware this term.

The £43 million (BBC) playmaker has been sensational this season and while Jesus does not play every week, he has shown his quality in recent games.

He often plays off the flanks but is also as close to a traditional number nine as City have and that has been handy in the last two campaigns, with Sergio Aguero phased out and then moved on.

Erling Haaland’s potential arrival at the Etihad Stadium could have a bearing on Jesus’ future, and convince him he needs to move to get more gametime.

But does he want to be part of a squad challenging on all fronts or a key man for a club further back in their development? That is essentially the conundrum, although Fabrizio Romano claims that Arsenal are not the only interested club this summer.
