‘He’ll stay’… £40m player won’t be joining Tottenham or Man United in January now

It seems as if both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are very keen to add a central defender to their respective squads in January.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team are enduring something of an injury crisis at the back, one they couldn’t afford with their thin squad.

And similarly, Erik ten Hag’s United side don’t seem to be able to perform whilst Lisandro Martinez is missing.

As a result, both sides have been linked with some lofty targets.

And alongside a host of other Premier League teams, both Tottenham and Man United have been linked with defender Jean-Clair Todibo in January.

However, journalist Alex Crook has now provided an update on the future of Todibo, suggesting he won’t be going anywhere.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Crook suggested the defender was happy to stay at Nice for now.

He said: “Yeah centre-back is the key area that Ange Postecoglou has been targeting. They’ve held loose talks with Nice about Jean-Clair Todibo.

“He’s got a lot of interest in the Premier League, Manchester United and Chelsea as well, looking ahead to the summer.

“But it looks like he’ll stay at Nice for this transfer window.”

Defender Jean-Clair Todibo unlikely to join Tottenham or Man United in January

Of course, this may come as a bigger blow to United than Spurs.

Tottenham now look right on the cusp of signing Radu Dragusin, with their staff now increasingly confident of a successful deal.

United on the other hand seem to be making little progress in their pursuits.

In fairness, the issue is definitely more pressing for Tottenham who have been fielding full-backs in the middle for several weeks.

Perhaps ten Hag would need to sell the likes of Raphael Varane before he was able to add to his squad mid-season.

Of course, Ally McCoist has previously encouraged United to sell Varane alongside three other players.

It’s certainly going to be a busy January window, but it doesn’t seem as if £40m defender Jean-Clair Todibo will be making a switch to Tottenham or United just yet.
