‘Heartbreaking’… Scott Brown says £25m player was absolutely gutted to leave Celtic

Scott Brown has shared how Kieran Tierney felt gutted to leave Celtic for Arsenal in his £25m move four seasons ago.

The Hoops legend was speaking about the former Celtic fullback and whilst he admits he would love to see Tierney back at Paradise one day, he did say the move to Arsenal was ‘heartbreaking’ for the on-loan Real Sociedad player.

Brown said [Glasgow Times], “His whole family support Celtic. He went to the games when he was a kid. I’ve seen the pictures of him with Naka (Shunsuke Nakamura) when he got his boots and things like that. It’s in his blood, Celtic.

“It (Arsenal) was a hard move for him, it was heartbreaking. But I think it was the right move at the right time. And to the right club. I think he would have learned a lot working with Mikel Arteta even though he’s maybe not played as much.”

Celtic have struggled to find a suitable replacement for Tierney for four years now and whilst Greg Taylor has been superb over the last two seasons, right now the Scotland fullback is struggling to recapture that treble-winning form.

The club have tried such players as Boli Bolingoli, Diego Laxalt, Jonjoe Kenny and Alexandro Bernabei. All have tried to make an impact but all were, ultimately not good enough to pull in the green and white hoops.

The left full-back position is one that needs to be strengthened either in the January window or next summer.

The lack of competition in that area is not healthy and it is probably contributing to Taylor losing some the sharpness that made his so reliable under Ange Postecoglou.

The next two transfer windows for Rodgers are crucial because after watching his side implode in the Scottish Premiership in recent weeks, the Celtic manager is coming under increasing pressure from the fans.
