Arsenal suffered their first loss of the Premier League season so far against Newcastle at the weekend.

The north London club weren’t at the races against the Magpies on Saturday evening, and while many of the performances were disappointing, things weren’t all bad.

Indeed, while it’s easy to get hung up on the players who didn’t play well, there were a few players who stood out.

Speaking on Five, Rio Ferdinand has been full of praise for one Arsenal player in particular – William Saliba.

The pundit says that Saliba was unreal against Newcastle despite the Gunners’ defeat, claiming that he actually reminded him of himself at one point.

Saliba was unreal

Ferdinand spoke incredibly highly of the £30m man.

“He was unreal. He played well and he did a bit of skill on the ball as well and I thought he reminds me of me. Haha, he was mad,” Ferdinand said.

Always brilliant

Saliba was as fantastic as ever against Newcastle, and it shouldn’t be a surprise that he was arguably Arsenal’s best player against the Magpies.

Saliba has been amazing over the past 12 months, and these sorts of performances have become the norm as of late.

The Frenchman is just a beautiful player. He has all of the technical and physical skills to be a world-class talent, and the scary thing is that he’s just 22 years old.

Saliba has got the best part of a decade of development ahead of him, and if he keeps getting better, he could become one of the very best in the Premier League.

Ferdinand says that Saliba reminded him of himself at the weekend, and, in all honesty, we wouldn’t back against Saliba becoming even better than Ferdinand by the time he ultimately reaches his peak.

Saliba is one of the brightest young talents in the world, and Arsenal are very lucky to have him.
