West Ham United striker Michail Antonio says the club have an exciting talent on their books in Gianluca Scamacca.

Speaking on the Footballer’s Podcast, Antonio was joined by Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson and has raved about the talent of Scamacca, despite the fact the Italian has only played once so far.

The 23-year-old made the switch to East London last month from Serie A outfit Sassuolo and made his debut against Manchester City on the weekend.

The Hammers fell to a 2-0 home defeat to the Premier League champions but Scamacca looked bright after he came on as a substitute in the second-half.

And Antonio is already impressed with the Italy international after watching him in training.

He said: “He looks quality! I’ve seen him in training, his hold up play, his awareness and in the 25 or 30 minutes he played, his leap looked decent.

“I’m very impressed with him and he’s a great signing!”

Exciting talent on West Ham books

Scamacca is certainly a signing that will excite West Ham fans after a prolific season in Serie A for Sassuolo.

The Italian striker bagged 16 goals in the league and will certainly pose a real threat for David Moyes’ men once he has adjusted to the Premier League.

Hammers fans will be delighted to hear that Scamacca has already impressed Antonio in training as Moyes now has two decent options for the striker role in his side.

Scamacca and Antonio will both be competing for a starting place at the London Stadium this season and Moyes has already been impressed with the Italian in training.

The Scotsman struggled to rotate last season due to a lack of attacking depth but he now has the option of playing both up front, or rotating between the pair.

Antonio struggled for goals in the second half of last season and Moyes will be delighted to have an alternative option for the current campaign.
