Arsenal linked with Brentford striker Ivan Toney
Well, Arsenal have been linked with Brentford and England international striker Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.
On December 30, The Independent reported that Arsenal want to sign Toney. Gunners manager Mikel Arteta personally wants to bring the 27-year-old striker to the Emirates Stadium in the middle of the season.
There is speculation that Brentford could ask for as much as £80 million for Toney, who is about to make a comeback after serving his ban. The striker reportedly wants £200,000 per week as salary to sign for any club this month.
Stuart Pearce’s verdict
Former Newcastle United player Stuart Pearce has given his verdict on speculation about Arsenal and Toney.
The talkSPORT pundit believes that the 27-year-old is the perfect striker for Arsenal.

Pearce said about Toney and Arsenal on talkSPORT: “I have seen Arsenal a few times as of the last month, and there has been speculation about Arsenal being interested in him.
“Prior to that I thought that Toney owes Brentford because he has been away for a long period of time, but the more I watch Arsenal, the more I think Arsenal are so desperate for a centre-forward that has got character and charisma, and I think this kid has.
“I think he has got arrogance as a centre-forward, and I think he could be everything they want. Whether they are going to put money down and what the reaction from Brentford will be will be interesting to see.”
Toney has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The striker has scored 32 goals and given nine assists in those games.
Arsenal’s strikers are not scoring enough goals. Gabriel Jesus has scored seven times in all competitions this season, while Eddie Nketiah has found the back of the net on six occasions in 24 competitive appearances.
Arsenal, who, along with Chelsea, will reportedly scout Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande at the Africa Cup of Nations, are aiming to win the Premier League title this season.
Meanwhile, Borja Mayoral has said that he is focused on Getafe amid reported interest from Arsenal.
The Sun has reported that the Gunners are keen on Mayoral and have had a bid of £22 million for the striker already turned down.
When asked about interest from Arsenal, Mayoral said: “It’s news that has surprised me too. I haven’t spoken to the club or my agent. I’m very focused on Getafe on a day-to-day basis.”
