Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal would have to pay Ivan Toney more than Bukayo Saka if they are to complete a deal for him.

That is according to talkSPORT, which has noted how much salary Brentford striker Toney wants.

So, what has been reported about Arsenal target Ivan Toney’s salary demands? Let’s take a look.

Salary demands of Arsenal target Ivan Toney

Well, Arsenal have been linked with Brentford and England international striker Ivan Toney.

On December 30, The Independent reported that Arsenal want to sign Toney from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the January transfer window.

The report noted that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta personally wants to bring the 27-year-old striker to the Emirates Stadium to enhance his side’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.

Brentford could demand as much as £80 million for Toney, according to the report.

TalkSPORT has reported interest in Toney from Chelsea as well, adding that the striker, who was described as “a world-class” player by former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster, is looking for a salary of over £200,000 per week.

My View: Arsenal should not meet Ivan Toney’s salary demands

In my opinion, Arsenal should not be willing to pay £80 million to Brentford for Ivan Toney and should not pay £200,000 per week to the striker.

If Arsenal decide to pay Toney £200,000 per week, then he would be earning more than England international winger Bukayo Saka, France international defender William Saliba and Brazil international winger Gabriel Martinelli.

Yes, we know that Arsenal need to sign a proven goalscorer, but that does not mean that they should pay Toney more than Saka, who is potentially world class.

After all, Toney has not played at all this season due to a ban and does not have any experience of playing in the UEFA Champions League. Arsenal need to think of the next two or three years and not just the next five or so months.
