‘Have to be careful’… Pundit reckons Manchester United could pinch Tottenham’s ‘fantastic’ man

Ange Postecoglou continues to win fans over at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Australian may not have led his team to a win in four games now, but he’s still winning plaudits for his attacking style of play and a draw at the Etihad was a good result for Spurs at the weekend.

Postecoglou has done a fantastic job at Tottenham so far, and now, predictably, talk of the Australian moving onto a bigger club is starting.

Indeed, speaking on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy, John Giles has been discussing Postecoglou’s situation at Spurs, and he reckons that any big club that are looking for a new manager soon, namely Manchester United, will have their eyes on Postecoglou, especially if Daniel Levy doesn’t back him adequately.

Man United could pinch Postecoglou

Giles shared his verdict on the Spurs boss.

“He’s establishing himself in the Premiership and if Spurs don’t do what he wants them to do you’ll find that there’ll be big clubs lining up to get him, so they better do what needs to be done at Spurs because there’s no doubt that they’ll lose him to one of the top clubs, what he’s doing at Spurs is fantastic, and all clubs will be looking for a new manager for the start of next season, and if they have to pay a fee for him they will pay a fee because a top manager like him is worth his weight in gold,” Giles said.

“What Spurs have to be careful about is that someone like Manchester United will have a look at this guy and say this is the one for us, if they don’t back him he’s making a good reputation and he’ll be off.”

Needs to be backed

As much as we hate to say it, Giles may be right.

Postecoglou is an ambitious man – he showed that this summer when he left Celtic for Tottenham, and at the age of 58, he doesn’t have the longest of managerial careers left ahead of him.

If a club like Manchester United offer him massive money and a huge transfer kitty, he may well be tempted to go, and it’s up to Daniel Levy to convince him that Tottenham can give him everything he needs to succeed in north London.

More than ever before, Daniel Levy needs to back his manager.
