Tottenham Hotspur eventually scraped past Morecambe Town yesterday as a couple of late mistakes allowed Harry Winks, Lucas Moura, and Harry Kane to complete the comeback. It means Spurs are in the fourth round, albeit with a less than impressive performance.
It took Antonio Conte’s men until the final quarter of the game to really get going. Winks’ free-kick found its way in before Morecambe made a defensive error to allow Lucas in. Kane then sealed things late on with a smart finish.
However, the performance has come under scrutiny from many. And it seems the Spurs players weren’t overly impressed with how things went, as Harry Winks spoke a few home truths.

Speaking after the game, Winks revealed that there were a few choice words at half-time, with Tottenham losing 1-0.
“At half-time there was some honest words said to each other because it wasn’t good enough, we knew that. We held ourselves accountable as players on the pitch to put it right and we probably did better in the second half. But it’s not good enough and it’s too late. If you leave it in the balance like that it can be difficult to get back into the game,” Winks said, via the N17 Live Twitter feed.
Tottenham will now take on fellow Premier League side Brighton in the fourth round.
TBR’s View: Tottenham Showing Just Why Conte Wants Signings
Beyond the best XI at Spurs, it really is obvious they need more. Fringe players like Alli, Lo Celso, and more are just not up to the task when they get the chance.
It’s hugely frustrating for supporters and Conte will now know full well who he wants to leave.
Yesterday’s performance could well push Spurs to do their business quickly. Winks, meanwhile, was one of a few who continues to impress and he looks safe for now at Tottenham.
