Harry Redknapp makes claim about Arsenal star Bukayo Saka ahead of England v Germany
Harry Redknapp has claimed that he wants Arsenal talent Bukayo Saka to start for England in their showdown with Germany on Tuesday evening.
England are preparing to face Germany at 5pm today in the Euros Round of 16 fixture.
There is so much attacking talent for Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate to choose from, so all eyes are on him to see the starting XI.
Redknapp delivered a five-word message supporting claims that Arsenal’s 19-year-old should play.
“Hope the boy Saka starts,” Redknapp wrote on Twitter.
If The Athletic are correct, Redknapp will get his wish.
They report the Arsenal winger is going to retain his position in the starting XI against Germany because of his display in the previous match.
He was man of the match in the group stage victory against Czech Republic, so Southgate will stick with him.
Saka to be given huge responsibility with England start
There is so much to enjoy about Saka.
Firstly, he’s absolutely fearless as a player that will look like he’s kicking the ball in his back garden when in reality he’s at the highest level. Secondly, he carried the weight of Arsenal in his shoulders last season. In addition, he showed the maturity to perform for England at a major tournament. Finally, the wide man is a speedster that has the directness and positivity that Southgate wants.
Starting for England in the knockout rounds of an international tournament is a massive achievement.
