Jamie Carragher names Manchester City star who’s “deceptively quick”
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Manchester City and England star Phil Foden is “deceptively quick’.
Foden, 21, has matured massively in the last year after being nurtured perfectly by Man City boss Pep Guardiola.
The young left-footer is a creative playmaker that can be used in midfield or attack. However, a lot of his success last season came as a winger at the Etihad Stadium.
He scored 16 goals and made 10 assists across all competitions during the last campaign for Man City. In addition, he won both the League Cup and Premier League.
Carragher has stated ahead of England’s showdown with Germany on Tuesday night that he wants to see Foden use more of his pace.
He was rested in the final group stage match of Euro 2020, so it’ll be interesting to see if he’s back in the XI tonight for the Round of 16 tie at Wembley Stadium against rivals Germany.
“He is deceptively quick and must use that asset more,” Carragher wrote for The Telegraph.
“People do not see his speed so much because Foden loves to drop deep or cut inside towards the ball. It is essential he mixes it up more for England as he does for Manchester City and consistently thinks of getting behind his full-back.”
Can England sensation Foden announce himself at Euros tournament
Foden isn’t an unknown talent, as he’s been integral in a world-class Man City side for a while now.
But, it’s been a quiet Euro 2020 competition for him so far.
He’s going to be so eager to impress against Germany, so Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate needs to give him the platform for him to express himself.
The Man City academy graduate is impossible to pin down when he’s confidently roaming the pitch.
As a result, there is so much anticipation to see the England formation against Germany.
