Bruno Guimaraes was amongst the players to applaud Allan Saint-Maximin on Instagram after Newcastle United secured a massive win in their bid to stay in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe’s side have put themselves in a brilliant position after securing back-to-back victories for the first time this season. This time, it was Everton who were dispatched at St James’ Park.

Newcastle produced a brilliant performance. They went a goal down nine minutes before half-time. However, they were level moments later. And Ryan Fraser and Kieran Trippier made the points safe after the break.
The game was, of course, Newcastle’s first following a hectic deadline day at the end of the January transfer window. And the fans got to see four of their new faces involved.

Matt Targett and Guimaraes made their debuts, while Trippier and Chris Wood both started. But it was one of the established members of the squad who helped steal the show.
Saint-Maximin was outrageously good during the second-half in particular.
Only Trippier made more key passes, according to Whoscored. Meanwhile, the Frenchman completed a staggering number of dribbles. He managed 10, twice as many as the next most prolific player.
With Guimaraes coming on in stoppage-time, the Brazilian was able to sit back and watch Saint-Maximin at work for the large majority of his performance.
And he was clearly impressed as he replied to the forward’s Instagram post following the game…

Saint-Maximin, Guimaraes and the rest set to power Newcastle to safety
Newcastle are now out of the bottom three. And no team in the bottom eight have taken more points from their last six than Howe’s side.
It was clear that the Magpies gave themselves the tools to stay in the league in January. It was just a matter of whether the team could gel together in a quick enough time.
Obviously, there are likely to be plenty of twists to come. But Newcastle have shown they do have the potential to take themselves right out of danger.
