Guillem Balague shares what he’s heard about Mikel Arteta potentially leaving Arsenal for Barcelona

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has now weighed in on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta potentially leaving for Barcelona.

Yesterday it was reported that Arteta could soon leave North London after Xavi announced he would vacate the Barcelona job this summer.

A former Barcelona player, it’s long been thought that Arteta would return to the club in a coaching capacity one day.

And whilst that may be the case, it would seem incredibly surprising from an Arsenal fan point of view if he were to leave now.

Although they’ve had their frustrations over the Christmas period, Arsenal are still primed for future success – and Arteta is so intrinsic to their ambitions.

That being said, Guillem Balague has now taken to X to explain what he understands about the possibility of Arteta leaving Arsenal for Barcelona.

It seems as if the journalist was just as surprised as the rest of us, he gave little credit to the rumours and thought Arteta would soon provide some clarity himself.

Balague shared his much-needed message of reassurance late last night.

He said: “Arsenal fans can relax.

“Mikel Arteta not only didn’t have a chat with his staff about leaving at the end of the season, he has no intention to leave either. None of that is true

“The club denies there was any meeting regarding leaving the club.

“Mikel is building something special at Arsenal and has lots more to do.

“He has a press conference tomorrow and I am sure you will hear that from him too.”

Of course, many fans will have believed that was the case, Arteta does seem very content at the club, who have completely bought into his vision.

That being said, this situation does delineate why Arsenal need to sort a new contract for Arteta ASAP.

Whilst Balague rubbished these Barcelona links this time, this isn’t going to be the first time a club tries to, or is rumoured to want to take Arteta from Arsenal.

Perhaps Arteta is still yet to achieve the trophies desired at the Emirates, but it’s formed such a brilliant foundation.

And with the summer transfer window in mind, one player demonstrated why he should be added to Arsenal’s project yesterday.
