Micky van de Ven has been lauded by a number of his Tottenham Hotspur teammates on Instagram after the side’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, with Guglielmo Vicario claiming that the centre-back was on another level.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side continue to be reluctant to do things the easy way this season. They fell behind just before the hour-mark, with Tottenham target Eberechi Eze scoring from a free-kick.

But Spurs got themselves back into the game. Brennan Johnson provided two assists as Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son all scored.

Micky van de Ven had another hugely impressive day at the back. The Dutchman made a vital tackle on Jean-Philippe Mateta during the first-half.

In fact, no Spurs player won more tackles than the 22-year-old, according to Whoscored. And clearly, a number of his Tottenham teammates were impressed by the summer signing.

The likes of James Maddison, Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso were full of praise for van de Ven on Instagram

Spurs’ defensive record will remain a concern

Of course, the defender’s pace is no secret. Van de Ven is the fastest player in the Premier League this season. And that gives Tottenham such an advantage, especially when they deploy their high line extremely well. It also helps that Vicario is so good at coming off his line and sweeping up when needed.

Tottenham will be concerned that they have not kept a clean sheet since mid-December in the Premier League. And they have actually not kept a clean sheet against a side in the top-half of the table since August.

Clearly, that run cannot continue if Tottenham are going to finish in the top four and book their return to the Champions League this season.

But while they are still finding their way under Postecoglou, they will take some confidence from securing an important win.
