Guardiola comments on Manchester City youngster Edozie

Pep Guardiola has been commenting on Manchester City youngster Samuel Edozie after the club’s latest pre-season outing.

What’s the story?

The Citizens beat Blackpool 4-1 to maintain their perfect record in pre-season thus far.

Edozie opened the scoring in just the third minute before Luke Garbutt equalised for the Championship outfit.

However, a double from Ilkay Gundogan and striker from Riyad Mahrez ensured Guardiola’s men strolled to victory.

Of all the players on show, it was the 18-year-old who caught the eye of Guardiola.

Speaking after the game, the 50-year-old waxed lyrical about the youth star.

When talking about Edozie, Guardiola said: “As a young talent, having a special quality, a guy who gets to the box with intention to score a goal – it’s so important for wingers.”

“He’s an incredible young player with good pace. But we have to be patient with him. He had minutes and played good and this is important.”

Guardiola comments mean nothing as Edozie unlikely to get a chance for Manchester City

It’s refreshing to hear such high praise for the youngster after his performances.

However, you feel as though the comments from Guardiola mean nothing as Edozie is unlikely to get a chance for Manchester City.

The first-team squad is stacked especially in the final third.

As a matter of fact, the giants are being forced to make space for the likes of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish. Such is the saturation within the squad at the Etihad Stadium.

Edozie’s best chance at impressing will have to be through loan spells, even then it’s hard to replicate the competitiveness of the Premier League.
