Scott Wright might not have been the most high-profile arrival at Ibrox in recent years, but he could yet prove the most significant.
He’s looked dangerous in recent games as a substitute, and was handed his first start since arriving from Aberdeen during the January window in Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie against Cove Rangers.
He was the outstanding performer on the park as Steven Gerrard’s men cruised to a 4-0 victory at Ibrox, and it was a display that had fans excited about what lies in store from the 23-year-old.
The 23-year-old was involved in most of Rangers’ attacks, and was a constant menace for the Premiership champions down the right.
Charlie Adam knows what it takes to succeed at Ibrox as a youngster, having come through the ranks and made 88 appearances for the club before joining Blackpool.
The veteran Dundee midfielder was thoroughly impressed with what he saw from Wright in the third round match, and believes he’s given Steven Gerrard a tough decision to make ahead of the fourth round derby against Celtic.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Adam said: “I do think he’s putting a little bit of doubt in the manager’s thoughts.
“That’s what the manager will be coming out and saying, ‘When I give these lads an opportunity I want them to show me why I brought them to the football club’.
“Scott Wright definitely did that and he’ll definitely get some game time between now and the end of the season.
“It’s a big football club that wants to win trophies and he should be proud of his performance because he definitely showed he’s a good player.
“Some players you think ‘I’m not sure why they signed him’ but when they get into that environment, that culture, that winning mentality, that makes players go express themselves.
“I saw that tonight with Scott Wright and you wouldn’t think Rangers only just signed him in January.
“He looks like he’s been in the door for a while.
“I thought he was excellent and the more he plays and understands what Rangers is all about he’ll understand the formation and what the manager wants from him, in and out of possession.
“He’s got great speed and can see a pass and he’s got a great future at Rangers.”
