Granit Xhaka confirms new Arsenal contract on Facebook

Granit Xhaka has confirmed his new Arsenal contract on the social media platform Facebook.

What’s the story?

In a post on the website, the Swiss captain claimed home is where the heart is.

Xhaka was subject to a bid from AS Roma throughout most of this summer’s transfer window.

He was eager to join the club’s new manager Jose Mourinho, who in turn was keen on signing him

However, a move never materialised with the outfit failing to meet Arsenal’s price tag.

As a result, Xhaka was handed a new contract until 2024, which he has now confirmed he has signed.

Keeping Xhaka was important for Arsenal

Last season was a disappointment for the north Londoners.

One of the only bright spots was the Switzerland international. His performances for the majority of the season helped instill one positive in an otherwise dismal campaign.

There was a threat that, if he moved to Italy, the club would struggle to replace him. Ruben Neves was reportedly a target to replace the 28-year-old, but you get the feeling he is not of the same quality.

Beyond of the Portugal international, there was a real lack of options.

The Arsenal man’s passing range and defensive nous, coupled with his high levels of fitness, makes him an invaluable asset.

So, letting Xhaka go is a scary thought if you were associated with the club.

Nevertheless, the midfielder has now confirmed his contract in what is a big boost to Arsenal.
