Arsenal fans discuss Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, amid reports he can leave
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly set to sell Ruben Neves this summer, if offers of £35million are tabled for the Portugal international. Arsenal are on the lookout for a new midfielder and while Yves Bissouma is a good option – Gunners fans think Neves would be the ideal addition.
Neves, 24, has been a stalwart for Wolves and boasts iconic status since joining the club from Porto in the summer of 2017. In just four years, Neves has amassed an enormous 176 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands outfit – but now, he could leave the club for just £35million.
That is according to The Athletic. A big summer is expected at Wolves with things going stale this season. Wolves need a new manager, and major surgery is required in order to get Wolves back into the side that were challenging for the top half of the table. Funds need to be generated.
Neves could be sacrificed in order to do that – and his price tag is likely to attract suitors. Numerous sides have been linked in the past, including the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United – but surely Arsenal need to take a look this summer? The Gunners are desperately after a midfielder.
The two reasons why Ruben Neves is a better option than Yves Bissouma for Arsenal…
Bissouma has been excellent for Brighton – and is good value at £40million. But the first reason is not the right buy for Arsenal, is that he is too similar to Thomas Partey. Partey likes to defend in front of the back four, and Bissouma does the same job. They need a more progressive midfielder.
Secondly, while Bissouma has been decent, the highest level he has played at is looking to avoid relegation from the Premier League with Brighton. Neves is a Portugal international, and reached the Europa League quarter-finals last season. For £5million less, there is surely only one winner.
Landing Bissouma would see Arsenal improve their options, but with Dani Ceballos leaving – they really do need a midfielder that can connect the midfield to attack. Granit Xhaka and Mo Elneny, like Partey, are passive – and probably on the firing list at Arsenal this summer.
Neves, meanwhile, offers much more. He is more attacking, more creative, more technical when in possession. He offers a better array of passing, ability from set-pieces whether that is corners or free-kicks. But of course, he is also capable of lashing one into the top corner from 25 yards.
He is a magical midfielder and at £35million, he is a real bargain – especially given he is still only 24. Arsenal have got to be interested in the Portuguese ace, and Gunners fans have taken to Twitter in a bid to urge their club to take action amid reports that he could leave Molineux for just £35million.
