Arsenal legend David Seaman believes Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins would be a good signing for the Gunners in January.

Mikel Arteta‘s side are exactly where they want to be – at the top of the Premier League table. They have had a great start to the season, but with the transfer window coming up next month, fans want to see their side strengthen. Seaman thinks reported Arsenal target Watkins would be great addition.

David Seaman backs Arsenal to sign Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins

Several people have come out and claimed that Arsenal need to sign a new striker to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah up top, while Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli can also lead the line.

That, on paper, is enough firepower to last an entire season, but there have been numerous rumours that Arsenal will make a move for a new number nine in January.

Ahead of the game against Aston Villa, David Seaman was asked if he would take Ollie Watkins at Arsenal. The legendary goalkeeper backed Arteta to sign the £28 million (BBC) striker.

He said on the Seaman Says podcast: “That is a good shout. Yeah, because he’s a box striker. He doesn’t get too involved in the build-up play which I like.

“I sometimes see Jesus too far out, and I’m like: ‘No, get back in the middle!’ It’s something everyone is talking about, getting a new striker and it would boost the team.”

Watkins will be key for Villa vs Arsenal today

Arsenal take on Aston Villa this evening in what will be a really difficult game.

Unai Emery‘s side haven’t lost at Villa Park since the Gunners beat them 4-2 all the way back in February this year. They’re on a 14-game unbeaten run at home, which is extraordinary.

Ollie Watkins scored for Villa the last time they faced Arsenal, and he has found the net on three other occasions as well, taking his tally to four goals in six league games against the Gunners.

If Villa are to get anything from the game today, the £130k-a-week (Spotrac) striker will be key, and he has the quality to cause Arsenal all sorts of problems. Mikel Arteta has already raved about him.
