Alasdair Gold has told The Last Word on Spurs podcast that he is sure that Tottenham Hotspur will look at signing Alessandro Bastoni again next summer having not managed to land the Inter Milan star during the last window.
Bastoni seemed to be right near the top of Antonio Conte’s wishlist in the last few months. Tottenham were looking for a centre-back capable of playing on the left of the back three.

Bastoni ticked the boxes. And at 23, there is huge potential for the Italian to improve further. He has been labelled a ‘superstar‘.
Tottenham will look at Bastoni again
At one stage, Calciomercato claimed that Conte was asking Fabio Paratici about the prospect of signing Bastoni every single day.

However, the defender ultimately decided to stay at Inter. And Tottenham turned their attention to a loan deal for Clement Lenglet.
Obviously, the loan deal gives Tottenham the opportunity to reassess next summer. And Gold has suggested that they are likely to have another look at Bastoni having not spent the money they were prepared to use on the youngster.
“I was going to say, Bastoni is a terrific example of that, they want Bastoni to come in and he would have been big money,” he told The Last Word on Spurs.
“They have gone for Lenglet as the short term option, hopefully he’s fantastic and earns a permanent deal, but that’s an example of having £50-£60 million or whatever it would have cost to get Bastoni.
“I’m sure they are going to have a look at that again in the summer, I’m sure they’ll look in January but you’d imagine it’s not going to happen mid season.
“But that money now goes to the summer and Bastoni becomes a, I’m not saying it’s definitely going to happen, but he would become next summer’s big signing.”
Spurs may fancy chances of deal next summer
The early signs suggest that Bastoni may find it harder to reject Spurs next summer.
Inter have made an underwhelming start to this campaign. The Nerazzurri sit seventh in Serie A after seven games. They have lost three and conceded 11.
Conte’s men meanwhile, could be in the title conversation this term. They remain unbeaten so far. And, despite not signing Bastoni, they have built a really impressive squad.
There is a long way to go this season. But something special could be happening at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And Spurs will hope that Bastoni will want to be a part of that.
