Gold expects Tottenham to make move for Weston McKennie this summer
Alasdair Gold has told his YouTube channel that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to make a move for Weston McKennie, and suggested that he understands that Fabio Paratici had the American higher on his wishlist than Rodrigo Bentancur during the January transfer window.
Spurs have once again been linked with McKennie heading into the summer. Antonio Conte’s midfield ranks are set to be bolstered in this window.
Reports towards the end of May claimed that Tottenham had made an enquiry for the Juventus star. And Gold has recently suggested to Football London that McKennie is on Spurs’ radar.

He has now provided some further insight into how highly Tottenham rate the USMNT international. The journalist claimed that Paratici was even more determined to sign the 23-year-old in the winter than he had been to land Bentancur.
“I do think Spurs will seriously look at Weston McKennie this summer. If you haven’t heard me say it before, Paratici spoke to his representatives in January about a potential move,” he told his YouTube channel.
“Paratici adores McKennie. He brought him to Juventus. From what I understand, he was actually above Bentancur on his January wishlist for a central midfielder.”

Gold expects Tottenham to move for McKennie
Those comments are particularly exciting given how good Bentancur has been. The Uruguayan arrived right at the end of the January window. And there were probably concerns that it was something of a panic buy.
But Bentancur proved to an inspired addition. His partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was crucial as Tottenham powered their way into the top-four and into next year’s Champions League.
They have Oliver Skipp to come back into the fold with injury. So adding McKennie to the ranks could prove to be a really smart piece of business.
He has been labelled ‘extraordinary‘ in the past. And he only turns 24 in August. So he is another player with plenty of time to improve further.
Signing McKennie would be another step in the right direction for Tottenham.
