Glenn Hoddle says Harry Kane was brilliant in Tottenham win

Glenn Hoddle has told BT Sport (broadcast on 12/10; 22:09) that Harry Kane was brilliant for Tottenham Hotspur in their Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday as he looked back at his assist for Son Heung-min.

Spurs have put themselves on pole position to get out of their group. They had to battle their way to a 3-2 win over the Europa League champions in North London.

Antonio Conte’s men went a goal down early on. But within 22 minutes, Tottenham were 3-1 ahead. Kane himself found the back of the net from the penalty spot. But he also set up Son for his first of the evening.

Harry Kane was brilliant

The England captain held up the ball brilliantly before turning and setting Son free. And the forward made absolutely no mistake when one-on-one with Kevin Trapp.

And Hoddle felt that that assist from Kane perfectly summed up his superb performance from open play.

“He did brilliant tonight. The balls into him. Hasebe in the first game, they did it as well. They pinned him all the time. He was up there playing last man, he was pinning him. You know Son. If [Kane] turns, Son’s on his bike always,” he told BT Sport.

Of course, Spurs will not be entirely happy with their performance. Frankfurt set up a nervy finish even though they played most of the second-half with 10 men.

But Tottenham fans will take real encouragement from seeing Kane setting up Son once again.

Kane’s form has very much gone under the radar this season. Rio Ferdinand noted on his YouTube channel this week that not enough people are talking about how good he has been due to the form of Erling Haaland.

He has been incredibly prolific so far. And yet, it does feel as though Tottenham are yet to hit top gear.

When you consider that they now top their Champions League group and are not far off the pace in the Premier League, something seriously exciting could be happening for Spurs in the weeks ahead.
