'Getting closer': Romano claims Tottenham hope to make 'extraordinary' signing by next week
Tottenham Hotspur hope to complete a deal for Udinese’s Destiny Udogie next week, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs have enjoyed a fruitful transfer window so far this summer, signing six players.
Now, Tottenham are reportedly leading the race for Udogie, a player Romano has deemed the “future of the Italian national team”.
The 19-year-old joined Udinese last summer, arriving on a loan deal from boyhood club Hellas Verona.
Udogie enjoyed a solid breakthrough campaign with Le Zebrette, registering seven goals and five assists from 37 matches.
The Italy Under-21 international has joined Udinese permanently, but they seem ready to cash in on him immediately.
“Tottenham are absolutely leading the race”
Romano, speaking on his latest YouTube video, provided some more information on Tottenham’s pursuit of Udogie.
“They (Spurs) are getting closer to signing Destiny Udogie,” said Romano.
“This full-back from Udinese, Italian player, really talented, fantastic last season in Serie A.
“He did a very good job playing in a 3-5-2 system.
“Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are both big fans of this guy, he’s the future of the Italian national team.
“Udinese want him to stay on loan, Tottenham seem to be open to this solution.
“Also Brighton had an interest but at the moment Tottenham are absolutely leading the race.
“They hope to complete the deal next week. And so, Tottenham working on Udogie for the future of the club.”
Gabriele Cioffi, head coach of Udinese, has already described Udogie as ‘extraordinary‘ and he looks to have a big future in the game.
Fabio Paratici apparently met the player’s agent in June, suggesting Tottenham have had their eye on him for a while.
Wing-back positions are important to a Conte side, and it seems that he wants the club to go and get someone who could fill that role for the next ten years.
