Arsenal are reportedly interested in midfielder Cheick Doucoure from French top-flight club Lens – and some of the Gunners fans on Twitter have reacted to the rumour positively.

Goal reports, as relayed by The Boot Room, that Arsenal are looking at the 21-year-old as a potential target this summer. It is understood the Mali internatonal is viewed as a potential Thomas Partey understudy.

However, Premier League club Aston Villa are seen as a rival for his signature because they also want to bring the Ligue 1 star to English football.

As it stands, Villa have made contact for the youngster. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side are currently monitoring the situation.

Lens, who finished seventh in the French top division last season, have a number of talented young players. For example, Doucoure is someone who’s attracting interest because of his performances.

He’s a defensive midfielder that ended up scoring four goals in 35 games across all competitions last season.

Cheick Doucoure gets Arsenal thumbs up

For Arsenal, they know this season is absolutely pivotal. They’ve made some signings to strengthen the group, but the squad needs filling out more.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media are behind the idea of strengthening their options in the centre of the park.

Partey, Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga look like three strong contenders to play in the midfield.

Doucoure is relatively unknown to English audiences, but he’s been building up some top level experience in the past couple of years in France.
