Gary Neville has responded when asked if he would swap Manchester United ace Anthony Martial for Tottenham general Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The latter struggled to cope with the combinations of Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith-Rowe and Granit Xhaka on Sunday.
Spurs were easily beaten at The Emirates by a resurgent Arsenal side, with the middle of the park an issue for Spurs. Hojbjerg was well below par.
Meanwhile, Neville’s old side Manchester United also struggled. Losing 1-0 to Villa, Martial remained an unused substitute against the Midlands side.
The Frenchman continues to be linked with a move and numerous reports state Spurs are keen – as per the Star. Eurosport say he is valued at £40m.
Asked if he would swap Martial for Hojbjerg – United need a holding midfielder and Spurs are keen on Martial – Neville had his say on Twitter.
Neville on Martial and Hojbjerg: Tottenham can do better
While Spurs need attacking cover for Harry Kane and United require an anchoring midfielder, this move would hardly suit Daniel Levy’s Spurs.
The Spurs supremo will be eyeing strikers, along with Fabio Paratici, as a long-term replacement for the exit-bound Harry Kane in the near future.
Kane remained in the summer, but is likely to go in the next couple of windows. Martial has been linked, but he is hardly on top of his game.
Jonathan Woodgate recently said that Solskjaer would be ‘pulling his hair out’ at Martial’s inconsistency and body language.
Despite his NLD display, Hojbjerg, 26, is key to Spurs. So, swapping an out-of-form forward for a crucial part of Tottenham’s core is not a good deal.
