Gary Neville lauds Patrick Bamford in Leeds loss vs Liverpool

Leeds United may have had little to smile about on Sunday, but one player did receive some credit, with Gary Neville telling Sky Sports (broadcast on 12/8; 17:01) that the movement of Patrick Bamford in the early stages was absolutely fantastic.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were comfortably beaten by Liverpool. It was a real day to forget for the Whites.

They lost Diego Llorente to injury. Pascal Struijk was sent off after a freak accident involving Harvey Elliott. And obviously, the result was emphatic.

The game had started well for Leeds however. Rodrigo missed an amazing chance in the opening minutes. And the Whites did ask a number of questions of the visitors.

One of the few Leeds players who did not produce a disappointing display was Bamford. He actually came close to scoring from near the halfway line during the second-half.

And after one opening in the first-half, Neville suggested that Bamford was proving particularly problematic for the visitors.

“Honestly, Bamford’s movement has been absolutely fantastic in this first half an hour,” he told Sky Sports. “There was a chance before when Kalvin Phillips should’ve played him through and even Virgil van Dijk’s got a little bit of a problem with him.”

Bamford one of the players Leeds need to drag them out of their rut

It has been a disappointing start to the campaign for Leeds. They have taken two points from their opening four games.

But more worryingly, their performances have largely been poor. And defensively, there looks to be some real problems.

It is too soon to panic. However, fans are clearly growing concerned.

Those who are doing fairly well will now be looked to to drag Leeds out of their current rut.

Bamford has done well so far. Kalvin Phillips meanwhile, was lauded by many for his display on Sunday.

If more can step up to their level, Leeds will quickly put this blip behind them.
