Gary Lineker has given his verdict on Jose Mourinho, a legendary manager who was once sacked by Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy.

Well, Jose Mourinho is back available now. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager was sacked by AS Roma this week.

The former Manchester United and Chelsea manager led Roma to UEFA Europa Conference League success in 2022 and guided the Italian club to the final of the UEFA Europa League in 2023.

However, Roma are struggling to challenge for the Serie A top four this season. They parted company with Mourinho this weekl

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has been looking back on Mourinho’s career and has spoken highly of him.

Interestingly, Mourinho got sacked by Spurs as well. The Portuguese boss replaced Mauricio Pochettino as the Tottenham manager in November 2019.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy sacked Mourinho as the first-team had coach in April 2021. The decision came as a shock, as Mourinho was let go just days before they were due to face Manchester City in the final of the EFL Cup.

Lineker said about Mourinho on The Rest is Football podcast: “He has won trophies pretty much everywhere he has been and don’t forget he was sacked just a few days before the Carabao Cup final, and he barely loses any of them. 

“He might well have won Spurs that trophy. He has won everything in the game. He is an extraordinary coach.

“He is particularly successful in finals, he has only ever lost one I think UEFA final, and that was the penalty shoot out against Sevilla last season.”

My View: Jose Mourinho is a genuinely great manager

In my opinion, Jose Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of all time. He is a legend of the game, and I hope that he finds a new managerial role soon.

Mourinho is 60 now and has still got fire left in him. I believe that he could still manage one of the top clubs in Europe.

If a top European club want to win trophies instantly, then Mourinho is the manager to go to. He has been linked with Newcastle United.

After all, we know that the Portuguese boss can do it. He won league titles with FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and European trophies with Porto, Inter, Manchester United and AS Roma.
