Gary Lineker has hailed a Tottenham Hotspur player and claimed that he would love to see him play more at international level.

Spurs have built a fantastic squad, haven’t they? Nobody would’ve predicted that Tottenham would look this good if you had asked them a year ago.

Ange Postecoglou has done a tremendous job since he took the job before the start of this season, and a number of his players have performed brilliantly as well.

Lineker says he is a big fan of one of them.

Gary Lineker says he loves one Tottenham player

Tottenham’s progression over the last eight months has been remarkable.

The North Londoners were arguably the most boring team to watch in the Premier League when Antonio Conte was at the helm last season.

Even the most optimistic Spurs fan was frustrated with the Italian’s system and his antics, and a change was absolutely necessary.

Ange Postecoglou came in as Tottenham’s saviour, and he has turned things around. Spurs fans love him and they’re enjoying his style of football too.

One player who has settled in brilliantly is summer signing James Maddison. The Englishman hit the ground running following his £40 million move last year (Sky Sports), and he is adored by Spurs fans.

However, as good as he has been, there is no place for him to become a regular starter in the England national team under Gareth Southgate.

Addressing the issue, Gary Lineker said on the latest episode of the Rest is Football podcast: “I love James Maddison. I’d love to see him play regularly for England.

“But, you’ve also got to consider that in his position, you’ve got the likes of Bellingham, Foden, Palmer too you could say. Then you’ve got Saka on one side and you’ve got people like Rashford…

“So, there’s so much competition in those areas, which is also a really good thing for England, is it not?”

The rare ability James Maddison has that England need

James Maddison is a terrific footballer – nobody can debate that. He is just perfect for Spurs.

The Englishman has proved his class in the Premier League time and again over the years, and he produced a bit of magic for England too on Tuesday.

Maddison used his presence of mind to assist Jude Bellingham by lifting the ball with the outside of his foot in the final minute of the game against Belgium.

Joe Cole hailed that rare ability and claimed that ‘only four or five players in the country‘ are capable of doing what Maddison did.

That’s the unique quality England will need in the Euros this summer, and Gareth Southgate should really consider using him more often.
