Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter on Sunday evening to react to the news that Dean Smith has been sacked as Aston Villa manager.
Smith’s future looked set to be a talking point throughout the international break. Villa have now lost their last five in the Premier League.

They are now within touching distance of the relegation zone. And it was reported over the weekend that Kasper Hjulmand is wanted by the Villans.
It was subsequently confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Smith has now been sacked.

Swiftly, it was reported that the likes of Ralph Hasenhuttl and Steven Gerrard were wanted by Villa.
The decision to part company with Smith will be understandable to many. Unfortunately, the 50-year-old had just been unable to take the side forward this season.
Nevertheless, Lineker has leapt to the Englishman’s defence. The BBC pundit labelled the decision from the Villa hierarchy ‘rubbish’…
Aston Villa search for new manager will determine how Dean Smith decision looks
Sacking Smith may well divide some of the Villa fanbase. Their performances and results were poor this season.
And it did appear that their squad went into the campaign in a better position despite the sale of Jack Grealish.
But others will suggest that he had earned the right to turn things around. He took the club to the Premier League. And they had threatened to finish in the European places last season.
Having said that, the search for his successor will surely determine how this decision is reflected upon in the months to come.
It does appear to be particularly ruthless. But if the new manager hits the ground running, many will feel that letting Smith was, unfortunately, the right decision.
