Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer predict where West Ham will finish in Premier League

West Ham United are set to get a very highly anticipated Premier League campaign under way on Saturday evening.

The Hammers endured a somewhat disappointing campaign in 2023/24, failing to qualify for Europe after three eventful years in continental competition.

However, West Ham have enjoyed a superb summer on the transfer front, with Tim Steidten working his magic in the market.

The Hammers didn’t waste any time when the window opened as they signed Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham and Max Kilman early on.

They then got three more signings done early in August, as Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez all arrived at the London Stadium.

West Ham have since signed two more players, landing Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.

The Hammers’ summer signing spree has certainly caught the eye, with Lewis Jones of Sky Sports News wondering whether they can ‘do a Bayer Leverkusen’.

Now, popular pundits Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have had their say on how West Ham could do in the league this term.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer tip West Ham for mid-table finish

Admittedly, the BBC Sport pundits don’t seem too confident of West Ham disrupting the top six this season.

Lineker said on The Rest Is Football: “I can see them challenging for Europe but just missing out, so mid-table.

Meanwhile, Shearer said he feels they’ll do “just better” than last season, but then suggested they could match their ninth-placed finish.

“What were they, ninth last season? I have them maybe a bit better than that,” he said. “Eighth or ninth, something like that.”

West Ham will hope to prove pundits wrong

Hammers fans will probably not be happy with the above predictions, but that may well suit them just fine.

Last season, not many would have backed Aston Villa to break into the top four, but they went about their business under the radar and duly clinched fourth place.

West Ham have an incredible asset in Steidten, and he has really worked his magic this summer.

With that in mind, the Hammers will be quietly confident of enjoying a solid season, with a Europa League place certainly a possibility.
