Arsenal new boy Gabriel Jesus has revealed that he wants to stay at the Emirates for at least five years.

The Gunners splashed £45 million to sign the Brazilian striker from Manchester City just a few weeks ago (Sky Sports). Jesus has already hit the ground running, scoring thrice in his first two pre-season games.

Mikel Arteta and Edu deserve a lot of credit for getting this over the line. To sign a player like Jesus when you’re not even in the Champions League shows immense ambition, and the Brazilian seems to be in love with the project as well.

In an interview with Brazilian outlet TNT Sports, Jesus revealed that his plan is not to spend a couple of years at Arsenal and then leave – he wants to stay for at least five seasons and help the Gunners win the Premier League again.

The 25-year-old said: “Well, I believe it’s not a readaptation because I’m still in the same league, country environment, so that helps a lot. And, in an environment where there are many young people, everyone talks, everyone laughs, and everyone has fun together.

“There are Brazilians, there’s Mikel, there’s Edu, there are people from the staff that I also worked with. So this part is very important, the way the players welcomed me here is also important, it counted a lot. And, well, I’m happy to be here, for the start of this pre-season. And I believe that it is still nothing of what is to come.

“Well, as I said, I always like projects in my life, I like to do things not only thinking about today, but thinking about the long term. I came here not to stay one or two seasons, but to stay five.

“So that’s my thought. That’s why I chose to come to Arsenal, a very big club in England, where they have a very beautiful history, and who unfortunately is dormant a little bit. Coming to a club that hasn’t won a league for a long time and that has been improving every year. The decision was also very important.”

Arsenal’s biggest problem last season was their lack of goals up top. Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang managed just four in the Premier League while Eddie Nketiah, who only started eight games, scored five times in the end.

The Gunners need a prolific goalscorer who will guarantee them over 15 goals every season. Jesus could well be that man.

The Brazilian is still only 25. He has proven his class in the Premier League and having worked with Arteta already during their time together at Manchester City, he should be able to fit in really nicely.

Arsenal take on Orlando City tonight in the Florida Cup, and Jesus is expected to start up top.
