Gabriel Agbonlahor has given his verdict on speculation linking Xabi Alonso with replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit has a theory as to why Alonso may not want to become the next Liverpool manager.
So, what has Gabriel Agbonlahor said about Liverpool and Xabi Alonso? Let’s take a look.
Xabi Alonso linked with Liverpool
Liverpool announced last week that Jurgen Klopp will step down as the first-team manager at the end of the season.
Klopp, who has led Liverpool to Premier League and UEFA Champions League success during his time at Anfield so far, is running out of energy.
Journalist Dean Jones has reported in SportsLens that Liverpool are already looking for potential successors.
Jones has noted that former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is the early favourite. He is now in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, who could win the Bundesliga title this season.
RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose thinks that Alonso is “fantastic” and is “a winner”, noting that “his side also plays attractive football”.
Gabriel Agbonlahor verdict
Gabriel Agbonlahor has given his verdict on Xabi Alonso. While the former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit rates the Spaniard highly, he thinks that he could turn down the chance to manage Liverpool now.
The pundit has said that since the 42-year-old is new to management, he might not want to take charge of Liverpool right after Jurgen Klopp leaves and could wait.

Agbonlahor said about Alonso to Liverpool speculation on talkSPORT: “For me, Alonso is doing a great job at Leverkusen, could win the league. They are unbeaten since he has been a manager this season.
“So, maybe, he might think, ‘You know what, let someone else go in first. Let’s see how they do. I can get in at a later date’. He is new to management, so why would he want to go there straight away?”
I think that if Alonso is offered the Liverpool managerial role, then he will take it.
Having played for Liverpool, Alonso knows what the club means and stands for. He will be well aware of the pressure and expectations at Anfield.
Liverpool have a very strong team and could win the Premier League title this season.
Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson and Virgil van Dijk are just some of the brilliant players Liverpool have, so Alonso would inherit a superb squad.
