Gabriel Agbonlahor has delivered his verdict on Bryan Gil’s display after coming off the bench for Tottenham Hotspur last night on TalkSPORT.

Spurs currently sit second in their Champions League group after being held to a goalless draw by Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

Conte’s men put in an improved display but could not find a way through the Bundesliga outfit on the night.

In what was one of the most surprising moments of the evening, Conte handed Gil his first minutes of the season. The Spanish winger replaced Richarlison with just over 12 minutes of the game left.

And Agbonlahor has criticised Gil for his display, saying the youngster looked miles off the pace during his brief cameo.

Agbonlahor delivers Gil verdict

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Agbonlahor claimed Spurs’ squad isn’t as strong as some might suggest.

He said: “I don’t think their squad is as good as people think. I’m looking at their squad yesterday – [Dejan] Kulusevski out injured and the only option they had to bring on was Bryan Gil, who didn’t look anywhere near it, he’s not had enough game time.

“If [Harry] Kane, [Heung-Min] Son and Richarlison got injured while Kulusevski was out, they’re struggling for numbers.

“If you look at that squad Spurs have got there compared to Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea. They’re miles behind for me.”

It may be a bit of a harsh assessment from Agbonlahor on Gil as the 21-year-old did enjoy a couple of bright moments.

But Gil didn’t have a lot of time to impact the game and Football.London reports that Conte was screaming at him from the touchline as he wanted him to tackle harder.

The youngster worked hard during the 12 minutes he was on the pitch and displayed some clever touches. But he was outmuscled by Frankfurt defenders on a couple of occasions.

Conte is currently a bit light in terms of attacking options due to Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura being sidelined.

The Italian will be hoping to have both players back sooner rather than later with a busy schedule ahead. But in the meantime, Gil could get more opportunities to impress with Moura and Kulusevski out injured.
