Gabby Agbonlahor says Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison shouldn't start tonight

Tottenham Hotspur face another gruelling challenge this evening as they travel to Manchester City.

Spurs need a win to keep their hopes of top four alive, after suffering defeat to Arsenal at the weekend.

Speaking on TalkSPORT (19/1 8:41am), Gabby Agbonlahor was previewing the tie.

Antonio Conte’s side have won just once in the league since football restarted after the World Cup.

They’ve had a tough run, but performances haven’t been up to scratch for some time.

Spurs have looked lethargic at times, and only came to life against Arsenal in the second-half.

By then it was too late, and individual mistakes like the one Hugo Lloris made certainly aren’t helping their cause.

Agbonlahor admitted that he doesn’t think Richarlison should start for Tottenham tonight given his performances this season.

The Brazilian was excellent at the World Cup, but has yet to score a Premier League goal for his new side.

He returned from Qatar with an injury, but is now ready to play his part for Spurs.

The £60m forward will be hoping he’s given another chance to open his account tonight.

The TalkSPORT pundit was asked by Alan Brazil whether the Brazilian should start ahead of Son Heung-min this evening.

“No, I would play Son.” Agbonlahor replied.

“This is the sort of game where on the counter-attack, if Kyle Walker’s pushed forward and he’s not coming back, you want Son on the counter-attack.

“He’s a lot quicker than Richarlison, and to be honest, after Richarlison’s antics on the weekend, I don’t think he deserves to play.

“He came on, did nothing, no Premier League goals this season, I’d rather Son.”

Son’s form has hardly been inspiring this season, having scored just four league goals all campaign.

He showed his quality after netting a hat-trick against Leicester, but that was all the way back in September.

Conte has given Son plenty of time to play himself into form since the World Cup ended.

However, Agbonlahor still believes Richarlison shouldn’t start for Tottenham this evening after his outburst at full-time on Sunday.

He’s set to avoid a ban for his role in the altercation, but will want to avoid any more aggrevation tonight.
