Tottenham beat Everton yesterday to be in the top four at Christmas and Ange Postecoglou had some kind words for his goalkeeper, Vicario.

The Italian stopper has been a revelation since arriving in the summer. He won praise from Peter Schmeichel for his performance yesterday, while Alan Shearer was full of praise for the stopper against Nottingham Forest recently as well.

The stopper arrived in north London for what now looks like a bargain £17m. And the praise for Vicario seems to be continuing, with his manager Ange Postecoglou also praising him.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, the Spurs boss was delighted with a few aspects of his side’s performance.

And when it came to Vicario, he was quick to point out how important his goalkeeper has been.

“He has been [strong] pretty much from the first game. Some games we haven’t needed a lot and today we did. He’s a great shot-stopper and is dealing with a different back four in lots of games. He’s got a maturity which helps the team in those moments,” Ange said.

One of Tottenham’s best signings

Spurs have been hit and miss in the transfer market at times in recent years. We’ve seen players like Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon struggle, while others, such as Dejan Kulusevski, have flourished.

As it stands, Vicario is definitely in the category of signings that have gone well for Spurs.

The task of replacing Hugo Lloris was never going to be an easy one and the 27-year-old has made it look easy at times.

He’s rightfully been praised by Postecoglou and he is currently crucial to Spurs getting results.

Teams who win trophies generally have a top goalkeeper – such as Man City with Ederson – and it does feel like Tottenham have finally got their number one slot sorted.
