Friday announcement may have paved the way for Arsenal to sign striker who's 'no less' than Vlahovic - TBR View
Arsenal have made decent progress so far in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have landed Sao Paulo prodigy Marquinhos and are reportedly closing in on Porto’s Fabio Vieira.
In addition, potential moves for Youri Tielemans and Gabriel Jesus are still on the cards for Arsenal.
And now, another striker may have just received the green light to move amid interest from the Gunners.
On Friday, Sassuolo announced the arrival of Uruguay striker Agustin Alvarez from Penarol.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the 21-year-old “could” well be Gianluca Scamacca’s replacement at the Serie A club.
Scamacca has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent months.
Earlier this month, Gazzetta dello Sport – via Sport Witness – claimed that the Gunners made Sassuolo an offer.
The Serie A club apparently rejected it, wanting £8.5million more.
Arsenal had apparently offered €32m (£27.2m) plus bonuses for a total of just under €40m (£34m).
However, Sassuolo have reportedly taken a ‘strong stance’ in terms of a transfer and want at least €50m (£42.5m).
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will try again for the Italy international.
One thing’s for sure though – even if Jesus joins, Mikel Arteta will need more than him and Eddie Nketiah in his ranks.
Arsenal have a big season ahead of them, with a return to European action likely to stretch the squad to its limit.
Scamacca is one of Italy’s top attacking talents, a player who former Sassuolo director Guido Angelozzi deemed “no less than (Dusan) Vlahovic”.
