TBR Football understands that former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Ruben Neves is now looking to move back to Europe in 2026.
All in all, Ruben Neves made 253 appearances for Wolves before he was sold to Al-Hilal for a club record fee in 2023.
But after a few years playing in the Saudi Pro League, Neves is now eyeing a return to European football.
Still only 28 years old, it’s understood that Neves believes that he is only just coming into his prime footballing years.
And following the Portugal international’s departure from Wolves, a return to England is now very much on his radar.
Ruben Neves ready to leave Al-Hilal in order to return to European football
Chief correspondent at TBR Football, Graeme Bailey, understands that a number of clubs have been approached to make them aware of Neves’ potential availability.
It remains to be seen how likely or possible an exit from Al-Hilal is in January, and a summer move currently looks more likely at this point.

However, a January switch can’t be discounted, and all options are being looked at.
With that in mind, TBR Football can confirm that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United were all spoken to in the summer about Neves, and they are again being kept informed.
Whilst other clubs have also been spoken to – sources confirm that these three clubs are seen as potential landing spots.
And it now remains to be seen whether Al-Hilal will look to move Neves on in January in order to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer, when his contract expires.
Neves won a league and cup double with Al-Hilal in the 2023/24 season, but it now seems as if his chapter with the club is coming to an end.
Ruben Neves thinks he has ‘unfinished business’ in England
That being said, chief correspondent Bailey understands that Neves will have a raft of opportunities if he does leave Al-Hilal next summer.
He explained: “I am told that Neves thinks there is ‘unfinished’ business in England – he had a wonderful time at Molineux and he is still highly respected.
“But it is not a given that he moves back to England.
“A return to Portugal would be considered whilst there is strong interest in Spain and Italy too – he is not going to be short of options.
“It is believed that Neves, given his substantial earnings during his stay in Saudi Arabia, won’t be looking for similar wages – he is in a good position that he will be able to choose the best club for him – this move will not be about the finances.”
