Newcastle United had a huge transfer saga to contend with over the summer window, but they can be happy that they kept the majority of their stars going into the new campaign.
Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool dominated the headlines for the last month of the transfer window, with the Swedish star heading to Anfield in the final hours of the window to join Arne Slot’s title charge.
It’s seen Newcastle sign Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa as his replacements, which proved to be a tough task when they were turned down by the likes of Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko throughout the window before their moves to Premier League clubs.
But nonetheless, they have come out of the summer period in a strong position, ready to hit the season head on.
And keeping hold of Kieran Trippier could prove to be arguably their best move of the summer after links away from St. James’ Park.

Kieran Trippier has been heavily linked with Newcastle United transfer exit
The right-back had been linked with a move away from Tyneside in recent windows, with Everton once thought to be keen on taking Trippier to Merseyside.
That hasn’t transpired, though it did look as though the former England international would have to suffer a lack of minutes through Tino Livramento taking the right-back spot under Eddie Howe, despite making 132 outings for the club.
Although it would hurt more to lose someone like Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle are well stocked in midfield with Jacob Ramsey, Joe Willock and Lewis Miley all waiting in the wings behind the Brazilian star.
And Trippier staying with his experience has proven to be positive given the injuries afforded to Livramento and fellow full-back Lewis Hall.
The former Tottenham star, now 35, has 210 appearances at Premier League level, as well as 68 La Liga appearances and 38 Champions League outings, so it’s fair to say that he’s well experienced.
And that could prove vital without Newcastle having to scramble for an alternative in a time of crisis as they hunt for a Champions League spot by the end of the season.

Newcastle United keeping Kieran Trippier will be crucial in defensive injury crisis
Livramento picked up a knee injury and had to be stretchered off against Arsenal at the end of September, meaning he’ll be out of action for quite a while.
Hall has struggled for minutes due to fitness issues, last featuring as a substitute against Union Saint-Gilloise at the start of the month, and only making one Premier League start.
Newcastle are now incredibly light on full-backs, with Dan Burn having to deputise on the flanks away from his natural centre-back position.
| Player | Premier League appearances | Clubs played for in Premier League |
|---|---|---|
| Kieran Trippier | 210 | Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United |
| Tino Livramento | 99 | Southampton, Newcastle United |
| Lewis Hall | 57 | Chelsea, Newcastle United |
| Dan Burn | 214 | Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle United |
| Emil Krafth | 83 | Newcastle United |
If they had sold Trippier, having Emil Krafth on the right would be a huge downgrade.
Also, if Burn does pick up an injury himself, Trippier has proven that he can play on the left at times which helps with versatility.
Losing Isak was tough for Eddie Howe, but keeping the Manchester City academy graduate has proven to be the right move.
