Forget Bruno Fernandes, Man Utd fans hail ‘absolute diamond’ after 3-2 win over Burnley

Manchester United looked like a team with a point to prove against Burnley at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim was visibly shellshocked after the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby on Wednesday, but the Red Devils seemed eager to cheer the 40-year-old up with a first Premier League win of the season.

An own goal from Josh Cullen, a first Manchester United strike for Bryan Mbeumo and a late penalty from Bruno Fernandes helped secure those three points, in a match Leny Yoro took by the scruff of the neck.

Manchester United fans salute Leny Yoro for “sensational” performance against Burnley

The Frenchman looked right up for this game from the first whistle, making two strong – but clean – challenges on Burnley early on, and fans took notice of his efforts.

One Manchester United supporter wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Leny Yoro is everything this club has been built on and he should be the cornerstone for the next 15 years.”

The man from Saint-Maurice is still only 19 years of age, so he has plenty of time on his side to become a mainstay at Old Trafford.

Another wrote: “We would be a great team if every player in our team had the fighting mentality that Leny Yoro has.”

Two more Manchester United fans also heaped praise on the teenager.

One posted: “Yoro is an incredible player! He is heading right to the top, amazing, amazing footballer. He can defend, he can carry, he can pass and he sure can score some goals too. Glad he is a Manchester United player.”

Another referred to the defender’s presence in the opposition box, adding: “Yoro becoming a real handful at both ends of the pitch.”

A fifth Manchester United fan wrote: “Leny Yoro is an absolute diamond.”

Real Madrid also wanted to sign Yoro before Manchester United sealed a £52m agreement with Lille in July 2024 – and the Spanish giants do not just buy anybody – which further reinforces the fact he is a special footballer.

Last but not least, another simply added: “Yoro is a sensational player.”

How Leny Yoro fared statistically in Manchester United 3-2 Burnley

Manchester United still have a lot to work on defensively as a unit – having conceded two sloppy goals against Burnley – but Yoro still managed to stand out despite the softness to the team.

As you can see, the Manchester United No.15 made two tackles and two clearances against the Clarets, taking 43 touches while also completing 26 passes – which are the standout statistics.

These are, of course, not exactly phenomenal numbers from Yoro – who knows Manchester United target Carlos Baleba well – in the grand scheme of things.

However, the France U21 international earns his praise more due to the fact he seems to be one of the few Manchester United players showing some desire and fight at the moment.

Yoro also tends to look forward when on the ball, showing a positivity in possession which more of his teammates need to discover if Amorim is to build on the win over Burnley.
