Alasdair Gold noticed that some Nottingham Forest fans were actually applauding Guglielmo Vicario during Tottenham Hotspur’s win at the City Ground on Friday night.
Guglielmo Vicario had the chance to celebrate a clean sheet for the first time in almost two months, with goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski giving Ange Postecoglou’s side a 2-0 victory.
Vicario did not have a huge amount to do during the contest. But when he was needed, the Italian stepped up.
Nottingham Forest fans applauded Guglielmo Vicario during Tottenham win
Of course, for many, his most important contribution of the night came when he did brilliantly to deny Harry Toffolo. But it seems that some of the home fans were impressed by another moment involving the 27-year-old.

Gold suggested on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast that he noticed that some of the Forest supporters were praising Vicario after one piece of superb goalkeeping.
“The defence were magnificent. Vicario, although he only had to make one really impressive save, that close range one from Toffolo, his command of his area was superb. Just grabbing the ball in the air whenever it came by. There was one really good flying punch he did that actually, Forest fans were applauding in front. I could see that,” he said.
Another reminder of an inspired Spurs move
It is remarkable how quickly Vicario has taken to life at Tottenham. He would not have been a name that almost anyone was talking about before the summer transfer window. In fact, he had only had a couple of years as a regular in Serie A before his move.
But he has been outstanding. Vicario has made a couple of mistakes. But he could already put together a highlight reel of the best saves he has made.
And it is clear that the defence have so much faith and confidence in Vicario. That relationship can often take years to develop. But, like a lot of things during Ange Postecoglou’s tenure, things have fallen into place so quickly.
It has seemingly got to the stage where even opposition fans cannot hide their admiration for Tottenham’s players this season.
