Report: Fonseca agrees Tottenham terms but one key figure will be missing

Paulo Fonseca has agreed terms with Tottenham but won’t be bringing his long-time accomplice, Nuno Campos, with him.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who reported yesterday that Fonseca has all but agreed a deal to take over at Spurs. It is claimed the former Roma boss will now travel to London this week to finalise terms.

However, Fonseca will come to North London without Campos. The experienced coach has been by the side of Fonseca for 15 years.

But Spurs’ wishes to keep the likes of Ryan Mason and Ledley King involved is likely the reason behind Campos not following Fonseca this time. Daniel Levy is said to be high on keeping some of the current staff around the club.

Fonseca has emerged as the frontrunner in recent weeks. It looks like bringing an end to what has been a slightly painful search for a new boss for Tottenham. A number of big names, including Brendan Rodgers and Antonio Conte, fell by the wayside.

Fabio Paratici is also close to joining the club. The Italian is expected to have a big say on transfers and has already tried to sign Giani Donnarumma.

Tottenham getting Fonseca but no Campos clearly not an issue

If it was, then Fonseca wouldn’t have taken the job. It’s clear, then, he’s happy to work at Spurs with some say so from above.

That wasn’t the case for Antonio Conte. He was said to want to bring in a number of coaches with him, as well as be handed a hefty budget to shape the squad.

Fonseca will no doubt be eager to get to work with Spurs. And there is a lot of work to do. Harry Kane’s future remains unclear, while there’re a number of areas in the first XI that need strengthening.

For Spurs fans, it’s quite exciting. At least they have a new manager in place, barring any hiccups.
