After another underwhelming goalkeeping performance for Chelsea, the need to find a replacement has increased heading into the January transfer window.
Filip Jorgensen struggled against Lincoln City, who caused the Chelsea goalkeeper consistent problems with crosses and long throws into the box.
Jorgensen failed to dominate in the air, and even though Chelsea did win the game 2-1, it was clear that the goalkeeping position continues to be a problem.
Jorgensen is Chelsea’s backup option this season, but his performance didn’t inspire hope in supporters that he’s ready to step up when necessary.

Chelsea must sign Mike Maignan after his latest AC Milan performance
Chelsea fans were busy wincing as they watched their team sneak past Lincoln in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, meanwhile, AC Milan were cruising to a 3-0 win against Lecce.
It was a night full of familiar faces for Chelsea supporters. Christopher Nkunku scored his first goal for the club, while former Blues winger Christian Pulisic also scored.
However, Mike Maignan’s performance was particularly interesting. The France international put in another commanding shift for the Serie A giants.
He continues to display the exact confidence in goal that Chelsea currently lacks, proving that he might be the right man to solve Enzo Maresca’s biggest problem.
| Match Stats | Maignan |
| Saves | 1 |
| Accurate Passes | 11/11 (100%) |
| Accurate Long Balls | 3/3 (100%) |
| Throws | 1 |
Chelsea made an offer to sign Maignan back in June, and even had an agreement with the goalkeeper, but they failed to agree on terms with AC Milan.
Chelsea are keeping tabs on Mike Maignan ahead of the January window
TBR Football has previously reported that Chelsea are still monitoring Maignan and remain interested in signing the goalkeeper to strengthen the position.
Chelsea are ready to make a move to sign the AC Milan shot-stopper on a pre-contract agreement in the January window. This would mean he would join the Blues at the end of this season on a free transfer.
While that might not solve Maresca’s immediate issue between the sticks, it would provide Chelsea with an eventual replacement for Robert Sanchez and Jorgensen, who have both failed to make the most of their opportunities.
