Federico Chiesa knows for a ‘fact’ that one part of his game is now worse at Liverpool

Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa thinks one area of his game has taken a hit in the last few years.

Much of the attention at Anfield this season has been on their big-money forward additions, such as Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

Yet, despite not being a regular starter under Arne Slot, Chiesa is making an impact for Liverpool.

The Italian has scored two and assisted one in the Premier League this term and has admitted he’s ‘happy’ with his situation at Anfield right now.

Federico Chiesa admits his pace is worse

However, as quoted by the Daily Mail, Chiesa believes he has lost some of his pace.

He said: “I’m a different player now. But I like where I’m going and I like the fact I have improved in many aspects of my game, apart from the fact I have lost a bit of speed.

“At the moment I’m happy with what I’m doing. I’m not happy with what the situation is like for the team because we’re not winning, but, personally, I think I’m giving a lot to the team, to the fans and I want to keep doing that in order to win in the future.

“That’s the main reason I’m doing this. Obviously, I want to stay here and I want to win for Liverpool again.”

Liverpool fans are impressed by Chiesa, but he’s been limited to appearances off the bench so far this term.

That may need to change because, as the 28-year-old mentioned, the Reds are in a difficult situation right now.

Will Federico Chiesa replace Mohamed Salah or Cody Gakpo

Chiesa is a versatile forward who offers Slot options all across the front line.

His preferred position is on the right, where Mohamed Salah has struggled this season.

But Slot is backing Salah to come good, so it seems unlikely he will start regularly ahead of the Egyptian.

On the left, the Liverpool boss wants Cody Gakpo to be less selfish and form a better understanding with Milos Kerkez.

If that does not happen, maybe Chiesa will be given a chance ahead of the Dutchman.

Liverpool are in Carabao Cup action against Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening, and the former Juventus star is expected to play some part.
