'Fantastic to see': TalkSPORT pundit absolutely loves watching 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur player now Conte's his manager

Hal Robson-Kanu has said he loves watching Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier now that he’s playing under Antonio Conte.

Robson-Kanu was speaking to TalkSPORT, and was amazed by the level of improvement he’s seen in the defender.

Dier has made himself an integral part of Conte’s back line, and has formed a brilliant partnership with Cristian Romero and Ben Davies.

Tottenham’s defensive stability is one of the main reasons the Lilywhites are currently unbeaten in the Premier League.

He could face his toughest test yet when Spurs travel to Arsenal for Saturday’s north London derby.

The winner will not only have bragging rights over their biggest rivals, but head to the top of the league.

Dier’s recent form has also seen him return to the England squad, and he couldn’t have timed it any better ahead of November’s World Cup.

Andros Townsend said Dier looked ‘very assured’ wearing the Three Lions strip, despite England’s poor results.

Dier integral to Conte’s system

It’s hardly surprising that Robson-Kanu has enjoyed watching Dier under Conte.

Harry Kane has remarked that Dier is enjoying the ‘best period of his career’.

Dier is a very passive defender, and ranks in the bottom 10% of defenders in Europe for pressures, tackles and interceptions (as per FBRef).

However, this is because Conte has utilised Dier’s midfield attributes in a deeper role.

The 28-year-old’s job is now to organise and marshal Tottenham from the back.

He’s also a handy attacking option, and often pops up at attacking set pieces and loves a header.

Dier already has two league goals his season, ducking low to head in a Son Heung-min cross against Southampton, before nodding in an Ivan Perisic cross against Leicester.

Robson-Kanu loves watching Dier

“Yeah, it’s nice to see (Dier’s improvement).” Robson-Kanu said.

“I think that’s the good thing about a new manager coming in to the club.

“He’s always going to give everyone an opportunity.

“That’s fantastic for players who have maybe been out in the abyss, or maybe fallen out of favour.

“For players who haven’t been in form, or maybe the style of play wasn’t quite suiting them.

“For Eric Dier, he’s ultimately taken the chance that (Antonio) Conte has given him, it’s fantastic to see.

“He’s come through as a young player with Tottenham, and now he’s ultimately beginning to fulfil a lot of what people were expecting him to do, maybe two or three years ago.

“It’s not always about the signings you bring in.

“It’s about the players you really build and develop and allow to flourish under your reign as manager.”

Dier is in the form of his life, and it’s no surprise Robson-Kanu is loving watching him play right now.
