Harry Kane has been full of praise for Tottenham Hotspur and England teammate Eric Dier.

Speaking to BBC Radio Live – via BBC Sport (23/9 19:36) – Kane said: “I think he has improved. He would be the first to admit that.

“Consistently, it’s probably the best period of his career.

“Antonio is a great coach, I think he gets the best out of a lot of his players that he works with.”

It’s high praise indeed from England’s captain, with Dier finally breaking back into the national team set-up.

It couldn’t have come at a better time for the 28-year-old, who made his first international appearance for 20 months against Italy.

Dier has now put himself in a strong position to go to the World Cup in November.

England suffered another defeat at the hands of Italy, that confirmed their relegation in the Nations League.

Compared to his teammates, Dier was one of the England’s better players.

The Guardian gave him a 6/10, calling him ‘solid’, with none of his teammates receiving a higher rating.

The Evening Standard also gave him a 6 out to 10, with no other England defender receiving a higher rating.

Dier’s form at Tottenham is the reason Gareth Southgate had no choice but to call up the centre-back.

The former Sporting academy player has formed a formidable partnership with Cristian Romero and Ben Davies.

His familiarity with Southgate’s three at the back formation makes him a sensible choice for England.

There are question marks over many of England’s defenders heading into the World Cup, with form and minutes being key factors.

Dier doesn’t have to worry about either of those issues as one of Conte’s most important players.

A report from The Athletic suggests he was the most passive defender in the Premier League last season.

However, his organisation and reading of the game puts him one step ahead of attackers.

Dier playing this role under Conte certainly looks like it’s getting the best out of the defender.

It’s no surprise Kane has been full of praise for Dier’s recent performances.

England and Tottenham fans will be hoping they continue over the next few months.
